Music Cognition Reading (MCRG) Focus Group

The Music Cognition Reading Group (MCRG, until we find a better name) reads articles on music cognition and discusses them in a seminar format. We have discussed articles on the nature of musical memory and melodic contour, on pitch hierarchy in tonal contexts, and on the process of key determination. We intend to meet weekly or bi-weekly during the Spring
term to continue with readings on such topics as the perception of deep structure, absolute pitch, atonal music, rhythm and meter, and melodic expectation. Those who would like to join are invited to contact Steve Larson.
